Call for expressions of interest for a GF-TADs Standing Group of Experts for CBPP in Africa

Register for the event

The recently concluded 10th GF-TADs* for Africa Regional Steering Committee (RSC-10) recommended that “GF-TADs Africa advocates for a better understanding of the epidemiology of  Contagious Bovine Pleuro-Pneumonia (CBPP) at sub-regional level through, for example, mapping of slaughterhouses, serological surveillance, animal identification schemes, and registration of pathologies”; and that : “an expert panel on CBPP be established jointly by AU-IBAR, FAO and OIE to support detection, foster and promote regional collaboration on CBPP control”.

(*) Global Framework for the progressive control of Transboundary Animal Diseases

In view of the latter, the OIE, on behalf of the GF-TADs for Africa Regional Secretariat, invites expressions of interest from countries, institutions and individuals to be part of the CBPP Standing Group of Experts (SGE), to be established during the first quarter of 2022. The initial core group, not exceeding 20 members, shall consist of selected founding member countries (affected by CBPP and interested in -further- addressing the disease, represented by the Chief Veterinary Officer – CVO – or OIE Delegate), OIE and FAO Reference Centres (Reference Laboratories), represented by the Designated Experts, and individual CBPP experts, either representing themselves or academic and/or research institutions, the private scetor (pharmaceutical industry, trade in bovine commidities, beef processing and export,…) and other holders of relevant skills and expertise.

Please note that participation in the Standing Group of Experts (SGE) on Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia is a non-remunerated position and is supported only for the facilitation of your presence (physical or virtual) at meetings.

Kindly submit your expression of interest through the online form available here (link or QR code) by 20 January 2022. Submission of your candidacy does not automatically signify admission, as the Regional Secretariat will scrutinise the proposed members and seek to strike a geographical balance between the various sub-regions of the African continent. The terms of reference of the proposed SGE will be submitted for adoption, with the proposed membership at the 11th RSC of the GF-TADs for Africa, scheduled for April – May 2022.
