Mali / Senegal : Passing away of Dr Abdoulaye Bouna Niang (25.11)

Dear Doctor Niang, Dear Abdoulaye,

We all are joined together here : your friends, colleagues and collaborators, to bid farewell to you before you make your last voyage from Mali to the soil of your ancestors.

The sorrow we feel to leave you, follows the joy we had working alongside you for all these years, while trying to match your ambition and your passion for the African land.

For many years, you were Director of the Veterinary Services of Senegal, but also the President of the OIE International Committee, before becoming the OIE Regional Representative for Africa. Hence, today, Africa and the veterinary world lost one if its main front-men. We will not forget this courageous man, proud of his wolof origins, but nevertheless so open to others, irrespective of their country, their culture or their religion.

Dear Abdoulaye, you remained upright until the end, such as in the statement you liked so much : a warrior dies standing up. We will miss your ‘joie de vivre’, but your laughter will remain with us for a long time to come. In the name of the OIE Director-General and of all of you, may your native soil bring you comfort.
