With State Minister for Livestock and Fisheries of Ethiopia, and OIE Delegate, Dr Mesrak Mokonnen Yetneberk at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
Taking advantage of his attendance at the high-level closing meeting of the VETGOV programme at the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Dr Jean – Philippe Dop, Deputy Director General of OIE conducted a first tour of the region, i.e. to Kenya and Ethiopia, to meet with OIE Regional Staff, the host country representatives of the OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Eastern Africa in Nairobi (Kenya) and partner organisations of the OIE in Kenya and Ethiopia, amongst which of course the Departments of Veterinary Services of both countries.
During his two-day stay in Nairobi (July 24 – 25) he visited the OIE offices in Upper Hill and met with representatives of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Nairobi, the Zoonotic Disease Unit (ZDU) at the Kenyatta Hospital, the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS, with Dr. Thomas Dulu, acting Director of Veterinary Services) and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Kabete, and the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kasarani, which was recently awarded the recognition of OIE Collaborating Centre for (honey) bee health in Africa.
Whilst in Ethiopia (July 26 – 28), he met with the State Minister for Livestock and Fisheries of Ethiopia, and OIE Delegate, Dr Mesrak Mokonnen Yetneberk and visited the facilities of the National Animal Health Diagnostic and Investigation Centre (NAHDIC) in Sabeta.
Upon his return to Paris on Friday, Dr Jean-Philippe Dop stated that he had been “…marvelled at the excellent relations OIE entertains with OIE Delegates and OIE partner organisations in the region”
