Prof. Anita Michel with her new iPad : congratulations !

You may remember that in early May , the OIE Regional Representation for Africa launched an electronic questionnaire for OIE Delegates, Focal Points, Commission Members (ad-hoc groups and working groups included) Designated experts of Reference Laboratories and Collaborating Centre Contact Points in Africa, as well as any visitor of the OIE Africa website, to gauge their appreciation (or discontent) with the current format of the OIE website for the Africa region, in view of redesigning the website.

The survey, conducted in both French and English, was closed on June 30, 2017 by which time 140 individuals had completed the questionnaire.

Of the 140 completed submissions, 45% were completed in French and 55% in English. Replies were received from 40 different African countries and a few (3) non-African countries (France, Mexico and UK). Most replies were submitted from the Republic of South Africa and most submissions (29%) were made by staff of public veterinary services.

Participation in the survey was encouraged by a prize, an Apple iPad tablet, which was won – during a draw organised at the OIE Training on the procedures for endorsement by the OIE of their national official control programmes (against FMD, PPR), in Kigali, Rwanda, on 19 July 2017 – by Prof. Anita Michel, OIE Wildlife Expert and Contact Point for the OIE Collaborating Centre for Training in Integrated Livestock and Wildlife Health and Management in Pretoria, South Africa.

The outcomes of this survey will be integrated with earlier internal surveys and will be used as the basis for the development of the new OIE Africa website in 2018, hopefully to anyone’s liking…
