Regional training workshop on the OIE procedures for the endorsement of official control programmes with regard to peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and dog-mediated rabies in Africa

The Regional Representation for Africa of the World Organisation for Animal Health, together with its partners, led its Members in a training workshop to raise awareness on official control programmes for dog-mediated rabies and PPR, showcase its benefits for Members in line with the OIE standards and procedures for the endorsement of both programmes.

The PPR Secretariat and colleagues from Food and Agriculture Organisation of United Nations (FAO) also attended the meeting.

At the workshop, participants engagement and level of interest was high as shown in the topics presented highlighting relevant points to OIE standards and procedures for the endorsement of the official control programmes for PPR and dog- mediated rabies.

The Global Strategy for the Control and Eradication of PPR (GCES) launched in 2015 has initiated several efforts and raised high expectations towards control and eradication of PPR and official recognition of PPR free status. This is of keen interest for the OIE Members in the Africa region

Furthermore, members were encouraged that those who wished to apply for OIE endorsement for their official control programmes, could do so as they had now developed capacity to submit a comprehensive dossier complying with the OIE standards and procedures.
